
Biography
K.C. Isaman, 24, is an active performer as a multi-genre bassist. He stays active as an orchestral bassist, chamber musician, jazz bassist, and musical theatre bassist. A thoughtful and engaging player who is fun to watch and even more fun to play with, K.C. enjoys playing and learning about all genres of music and strives to be a reliable, trustworthy, and dynamic performer.
As many bass players do, K.C. started playing bass out of necessity. He was expecting to join his high school jazz band to play drums, but when there was already a drummer he was asked to learn the bass. After a month of practicing in the school's band closet, he had his first concert and he knew from that moment on that playing the bass was meant for him.
K.C. received his Bachelor of Music in Performance with a minor in Jazz Studies from the University of Idaho in 2023. K.C. studied under Joshua Skinner, Vern Sielert, Kate Skinner, and Daniel Bukvich. While at the University of Idaho, K.C. performed with nearly every musical group on campus. He has performed with Jazz Band 1, Jazz Messengers Combo, Jazz Choir 1, Chamber Jazz Choir, Symphony Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, New Music Ensemble, Early Music Ensemble, and as a featured instrumental soloist with the Vandaleers Concert Choir.
K.C. was invited to join the GRAMMY Museum Affiliate Collective for the 2023 Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival. This collective is composed of top student musicians from other GRAMMY Museum Affiliate Universities such as the Berklee College of Music, Temple University, and the Chichester Conservatoire. During the week of the festival, the collective took part in the community outreach program Jazz in the Schools, gave masterclasses within the festival’s workshop series, and performed on the main stage each night.
While in Moscow, K.C. performed with the Washington Idaho Symphony and the Palouse Choral Society’s orchestra. He also performed with the world music group The Sultry Swines and is a founding member of the fusion group Pumice Pocket. With Pumice Pocket, he was involved with the release of the full-length album “When The Dam Breaks” and the live album “Caligari”. He has joined Greg Yasinitsky in his groups The Yazz Band and the Cross Current Quartet at the Lynden Music Festival.
In his work in musical theatre, K.C. has performed with the Alpine Theatre Project in Whitefish, Montana in their Broadway Concert Series. At ATP, he has performed with Broadway greats such as Donna Vivino, Robert Creighton, Meredith Patterson, DeWitt Fleming Jr., and Virginia Woodruff. He premiered Erica von Kleist’s new musical “Sorry!” in a staged reading in 2021. K.C. joined Stephan Stubbins and Libby Servais to perform their duo musical revue “Broadway in Love” at the Bigfork Summer Playhouse.
K.C. is currently working as a Graduate Employee for the Double Bass area at the University of Oregon. Pursuing a Master of Music in Performance, K.C. studies under Tyler Abbott. K.C. has performed in Avery Scanlon’s 12 O’Clock Ensemble, the Musicking Ensemble, the Eugene Difficult Music Ensemble, principal bass of the University of Oregon Symphony Orchestra, and as a fellow with OrchestraNEXT. He recently won a section position with the Rogue Valley Symphony in Ashland, Oregon. K.C. is Instructor of Double Bass at Linn-Benton Community College in Albany, Oregon.
